In such a male dominated industry, it is important for women in entertainment to rally together in support and promotion of their talents. Keisha Zackery, creator of THEHIPHOPDIVA.COM, has developed a website as a hip-hop media outlet to spotlight women in the music industry. Last Friday, May 21st, 2010, THEHIPHOPDIVA.COM hosted a gifting suite in Los Angeles, CA in light of the 2010 Female Hip Hop Honors.

Performers from the Hip Hop Honors were honored as event guests, and local L.A talent came in support of the function as well. Comedian Lunell, who hosted the Honors, along with Suzanne Samone, Sparky D, Lady of Rage and Queen P, the female emcees, attended the gifting suite. All guests were offered LAMIK Beauty mini-makeovers and hairstyling courtesy of Renee Ramore Salon. Two Minx technicians also did custom nail art on site, allowing guests to really indulge in being spoiled, even if only for a short time!

THEHIPHOPDIVA.COM’s Diva Glitz and Glam Gifting and Pampering Suite sent its guests away with gift bags featuring items from Wilson’s Leather, Sheikh Shoes, Zuly Clothing, and Princess of Posse. The event was an overall success, both for those honored and those present for a once in a lifetime networking opportunity.

Missed out this time? Don’t fret! THEHIPHOPDIVA.COM has received overwhelming support of the gifting events, and plans to host more of them in the near future. Keisha Zackery tells us, “Last year at the BET Hip Hop Awards, there was no female category. I mean really? In 2009?” She’s right. There was no female focus or perspective at all for those awards. Have women made no influence at all in the hip-hop brought to you by Black Entertainment Television? THEHIPHOPDIVA.COM thinks they have. And we agree.

THEHIPHOPDIVA.COM gives women the opportunity to be highlighted in the media, and the Diva Glitz and Glam Gifting and Pampering Suite allowed women in hip-hop to feel good about themselves and their constant contributions to music. At mixers hosted by THEHIPHOPDIVA.COM, women can mingle and network amongst other talented females in the industry, eventually forming relationships to further success among women, a minority in hip-hop.

Zackery tells us that although THEHIPHOPDIVA.COM is always available to spotlight divas in the industry, men are not excluded! She says that men are some of the biggest supporters of the appreciation suites. “Men love women, and they support the fact that somebody is honoring them.” At previous gifting suites where women from Disturbing the Peace and Def Jam Record Labels were honored, both Ludacris and Russell Simmons sent support on behalf of these hard-working women.

We can look to THEHIPHOPDIVA.COM to keep dedicated women in hip-hop relevant. The pampering suite for the BET Hip Hop Awards has been made annual along with a host of events given by Keisha Zackery and THEHIPHOPDIVA.COM. Keep striving, Divas! Somebody is watching!
