In Oct. 30 2008 NBA Commissioner David Stern announced that Dallas has been selected as the site of the NBA All-Star Weekend 2010, the 59th edition of this popular event.
24 years have passed since the first time the All-Star went to Dallas. In 1986 Isiah Thomas carried the East to a 139-132 win, while Larry Bird won the first three-point shootout contest and Spud Webb surprised everybody winning the slam dunk contest.
It’s said that everything is bigger in Texas, and this All-Star Weekend won’t be an exception. For the first time since 1989 in Houston the All-Star competitions will be split between two venues. Friday T-Mobile Rookie Challenge and NBA All-Star Saturday Night festivities will take place at American Airlines Center (home of the Mavericks), and the Sunday NBA All-Star Game will be played at the new 1 billion Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington (still nameless), which will have a seating capacity in excess of 80,000 and up to 100,000. Houston Astrodome in 1989 has the highest attendance with 44,735 spectators.

In addition to the possible record crowd, the worldwide television audience includes more 200 countries. TNT will broadcast coverage throughout the weekend, which starts Feb. 12.
Dallas Convention Center will house the popular Jam Session basketball theme park.

The NBA and Sprite, with the help of LeBron James, are bringing the best amateur dunkers in the U.S. to the NBA All-Star Weekend 2010 in Dallas to crown a Sprite Slam Dunk Showdown champion. More info
